Candace Liger
Biographical Info
Candace has extensive community organizing skills especially when it comes to marginalized communities such as women, incarcerated people, and people of color. She has been a driving force for change in OKC through her activism. She is now working through Project Blackbird (PB). PB’s mission is to call for the freedom and liberation of communities that have been affected by the criminal justice system through digital media advocacy. This grassroots collective advocates for individuals who’ve been jailed due to inability to afford bail, unfair sentencing practices and the stories that define the need for criminal justice reform across Oklahoma and the nation. Within the work, we highlight storytelling as a medium to humanize the people who are most impacted by mass incarceration. She was recognized for the 2017 Social Justice Activator Award from the YMCA of Oklahoma and the 2017 ACLU Angie Debo Civil Libertarian Award for her many contributions in the state of Oklahoma.
